The vine, wine and man, a bond that has millenary origins on the island of Ischia. The past and present of Cantine Tommasone moves from the small town of Lacco Ameno, a reality whose roots date back to the late 1700s and today managed by the fourth generation. Lucia Monti is the first and only woman in the Ischian wine scene and she produces the wines that the family has always wanted to obtain, improving herself day after day.
The past and present of Cantine Tommasone has moved from the small town of Lacco Ameno since the end of the 1700s: the remains of the ancient millstone, the old pressing press and the barrel cellar dug into the green tuff, are the traces that accompany the winemaking tradition family for over 300 years, combined with the knowledge handed down from father to son for five generations.
Son of peasants, in 1870, great-grandfather Pietro started the winemaking tradition that distinguishes the Monti family. Pietro is followed by his son Tommaso known as "Tommasone" (hence the name of the company), to get to the present day with Antonio and his great passion for catering which, years ago, led him to move to Cologne to start a successful restaurant. In Germany he meets and marries Birgit and his daughters, Lucia and Barbara, are born, but Antonio has never forgotten his strong appeal to his land and the teachings of his father Tommaso.
In 1999, Antonio Monti undertook the restructuring of the ancient cellars and the replanting of the old owned vineyards. From the past to the present and to the future of the family: after studying viticulture and oenology in Germany, and after various internships and work experiences in Italy and abroad, it is the daughter Lucia who has been running the company since 2009, to continue the project started by dad.
In addition to the winemaking business, with her sister Barbara, Lucia also launched the idea of combining wine with a cosmetic production based on certified organic grapes, creating the Tommasone Cosmetics brand. Based on serious scientific research and eco-sustainable packaging, Tommasone cosmetics enhance the countless beneficial properties of grapes, a precious concentrate of antioxidants, astringents and revitalizing agents.
Flanked by her husband Giuseppe Andreoli, Lucia represents the first “pink parenthesis” in the Ischian wine scene: reflective, lover of the territory and capable of listening to it, only as women know how to do. With her, her roots continue to be the strength of Cantine Tommasone: family, land and hard work in the vineyard are the important inheritance received from her. Even today, the company produces the wines that the family has always wanted to obtain, improving day by day to offer the most precious result of an innate passion: good wine.
